The Penderwicks at Point Mouette

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall

Summary: The Penderwicks are off on various summer vacations with Rosalind setting off on her own and trusting her two youngest sisters in the care of the next oldest Penderwick, Skye. With her as the OAP - Oldest Available Penderwick - it is her job to look after and care for Jane and Batty. None of the sisters are sure they are ready for this, especially Skye. All she wants is to make it through their time at the coast without getting anyone killed or blowing Batty up. With the aid of Aunt Claire and Jeffrey she might just make it. Then again, she and her sisters are Penderwicks and trouble and adventures follow them wherever they go.

I didn't think I would ever have a favourite Penderwick book. I love the first two equally, but there was something special about this one. I can't pin point what exactly, but I am sure part of it is the summer adventures, Aunt Claire hurting her ankle and the sisters having to take over all the household duties, the moose, Batty missing Ben, and the sisters getting hair cuts for Jane.

Like the other stories, this one is sweet and charming. It is filled with mishaps - and what might be love but what also might be inspiration for a book, it is hard to be sure - and Jeffery being one of the only ones who is able to handle Skye's panic attacks.

This book did have sadder moments than the other two. There were a couple times I wanted to cry, but it was the good kind of crying and saddness.

I recommend all of the Penderwick books, but this one especially. This is one family you will want to spend a summer with.
