Read it. Have your outlook on everything you thought you knew about the Civil War and other issues shaken. Sometimes that isn't a horrible thing. Form your own opinion on this book, give it a chance. Don't let the opinions of others force you to form your own views before you even give it a chance. Sometimes you might have to step back and question things you thought you believed with complete surety. Things which involve government.
Also, read it because it is fun. Scout and Jem are worth it, and Atticus. Spend another long summer with them.
